Visual Art – San Francisco

Tim Dangaran was born in San Francisco and at age ten moved with his family to a cattle ranch in North-Eastern Nevada at the base of the Ruby Mountains. Both the urban and country lifestyles influenced his art early on, as it does to this day. Tim would spend countless hours observing, sketching and photographing wildlife and the natural surroundings. He realized that he had a knack for drawing in his early teens and won many art awards both at the high school and intermediate levels. Tim eventually moved back to San Francisco to attend the Academy of Art University where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Art in Illustration in 2003. Tim most commonly draws highly detailed black and white illustrations using a broad range of graphite pencils. He typically works with oil-based paints when he creates color pieces. As a formally trained illustrator, Tim is proficient in many types of traditional media from graphite, charcoal and pen & ink to watercolor, acrylic and oil paints. He is also an accomplished digital media artist and at times combines a number of formats to create mixed-media pieces. People often comment that Tim’s work looks like a photograph. Although he does use photographs as reference material, Tim doesn’t consider his work to be photo realism. He observes the unique details of the subject and will deliberatly omit undesirable effects and imperfections while enhancing those that he finds important. The transformation results in art that is unique and cannot be created by a camera. Tim still lives and works in the Bay Area. To view Tim's work please visit his web page at www.dangaran.com
