Visual Art – Melbourne

Dawn (Denecke) Rieniets (American born 1981) Studied Studio Art at The State University of New York at Buffalo. After University artwork took a back seat as Dawn attempted to ‘get a real job.’ She travelled to Europe, back to the USA and eventually to Australia where she stayed for love. After becoming a mother, Dawn wanted be an example of someone who follows her passion. She scrounged up some old paint, some dusty skills and cobbled together a business and identity that included being a working artist. Dawn’s goal is to inspire and teach new mums to rediscover themselves through art and creativity. She blogs about this and more on her blog Kangaroo Spotting: Motherhood, Creativity & Identity. Working mainly with acrylic on canvas, Dawn enjoys incorporating vintage and reclaimed materials to create a sense of nostalgia in her mixed media pieces. A lover of abstract expressionism she tends to blend form and colour to evoke a mood or tell a story.
