Visual Art – Connecticut

Throughout the portfolio, fabric, paint, and found objects are used as the primary components of each piece. Fascination with the goth aesthetic, fantasy, witchcraft, and death has lead them to become dark yet illuminating; full of emotion, organicism, religious imagery, and symbolism. The work is a visual autobiography of an artist overcoming their internal demons to become their authentic self. Through the use of animal, herbal, and spiritual convoys, the artist transforms themself into otherworldly creatures, paying close attention to detail and spirituality. The palette of the work is often taken from catholic imagery or inspired by nature, with lots of gold, deep red, and black. Though much of the work has an English Victorian flair, there is an underlying latin influence that is crucial to the artists identity. Memento mori is also integral to the narrative as a symbol of change, and often takes form as actual taxidermied specimens, typically birds and rodents. The drawings are typically assembled in an ornate frame, although some come off the wall to interact with their environment. The goal of the work is to create an miniature world contained with itself, that resides in the uncanny valley. Between what is known and unknown, one finds the answer to the mysteries.
