Visual Art – Tulsa

I fell in love with art in kindergarten. My family moved from Florida to Mexico and on to Guatemala, Central America, during my school years until high school, when we moved to Dallas, TX. I graduated from Duncanville High School in 1980 and the Art Institute of Dallas in 1982. My career in art began right after high school, working as a production artist for Taylor Publishing Company. In my second year of art school, I began to freelance as an illustrator in a small studio. Upon graduation from AI, my work as a commercial artist included creating children's book illustrations, editorial illustrations for the Dallas Time Herald and an invitation to return to Guatemala for a two year assignment illustrating primers and producing newsletters and cards for literacy teams there. Returning to Dallas, from Central America in the mid 80s, I began pursuing my career in advertising as a production artist/illustrator. My career moved into computer graphics in the early 90s, opening more creative avenues to learn and grow, but moving away from my love of illustration. I moved to Oklahoma in 2011 to be nearer my aging parents and my brothers' families. Just recently, I have begun painting watercolor portraits of people and their pets. Being invited to participate in the RAW showcase in Tulsa, OK, was a great experience, and I am excited to be a part of the Dallas Raw show on February 26th!
