Holy Inkling

Visual Art – Chicago

Mandy Savage (Holy Inkling) is a Latina block-printing artist based in Chicago. She hand carves and hand prints each of her pieces pulling inspiration from her maternity, city life, and ethnic identity in America, as well as her childhood home in New Orleans. Playing with shapes, pattern, and composition, each of her prints are unique. While some prints may look similar, Savage does not employ any form of reproduction. Rather, she creates "families" of work. Starting with one design that is carved into linoleum, Mandy then reconfigures and rearranges the block on paper during the hand printing process such that every finished piece is entirely distinct. When the variations are exhausted, a new design is required and a new family of work is born.
