Visual Art – Toronto
I am a Toronto abstract artist, working in acrylic for many years. I obtained a degree in Nutrition from Ryerson University and received a Master’s of Science from the University of Toronto. Poised between my two passions – science and art. I am a pediatric clinical dietitian, in oncology at SickKids and abstract artist. I spend my evenings and weekends painting large abstract works of art.
The work I do at the hospital is informed by science, but it also requires creativity, passion and some level of intuition. I see my paintings as an extension and expression of this. Sometimes, when I feel inspired to paint a new series, the link with my daily work is clear. For example, some of my work is clearly underpinned by a sense of hope and inspiration. This can inspire an idea for a painting that will ultimately be organic in nature. The fluidity and movement of some of my pieces may resemble cellular activity on a microscopic level. I re-evaluate these images and transfer them to the canvas on an abstract level. My art, although in a very different way, also is a way for me to express that healing. Coupled with the scientific, the emotional aspect of the job also influences my paintings.
