Visual Art – Denver

Growing up I was often afraid of the world because I was raised by a catholic family in a small town. The religious conditioning I received during my childhood became a root of my psychological fears, which revolve around the idea of family, mental health, and the male gaze. After moving away from home and experiencing new environments I have become disillusioned with society in general. Much of my conceptual work is derived from dreams and the subconscious which I use to analyze common fears shared among my peers. This process allows me to understand my surrounding environment and why it makes me uncomfortable. Drawing on these emotions I find the primal drivers of our actions, describe them in an uncanny manner, and mask them with humor and bright color palates to reveal a glimpse of the sad world we live in. However, to maintain a positive mindset I make paintings that reflect every day activities that bring happiness into my life. These art pieces start as continuous line drawings so I can be fully present to soak in the joy of these mundane moments.
