Jessica Barnd

Visual Art – Minneapolis

My artistic roles include: fine artist, sign painter/muralist, and teacher. I find myself dancing between different materials. This is no different than my dance between rural and city environments, and the roles of working artist and high school art teacher. (I chalk it up to being a Gemini). When focused on content-driven work, I prefer to explore our relationships to objects. I have attractions to bubble wrap, gauze, and window screens. Computer command keys are among my favorites; to remove them from their original state and juxtapose them with new materials becomes a curious game. Regardless of the material, I chose to push its physical and metaphoric qualities. My abstract paintings are a representation of my daily life. Simply stated: Organized Chaos. My goal is to create balance among the congestion. I\'m in love with hand-painted letters created with high gloss paints.
