JESS MAPLES IS A STORYTELLER. With a background in Social Work, she combines her compassionate heart with a unique perspective. Jess uses her empathy and active listening skills to connect with her clients and accurately capture their stories through composition. Her Knoxville, TN heritage has provided her opportunities to create a diverse portfolio. Her work captures a range of contexts from the Great Smokey Mountains and the historic World's Fair Park, to the University of Tennessee's football team, the Tennessee Volunteers. From 2012-2013, her work took her to South Africa to work in an orphanage for a year. Her primary project was to assist in compiling individualized "Living Memory Boxes" for the children she served. It was a joy to watch as some of the children received a picture of themselves for the first time. Nurture Aperture is Jess's movement designed to teach the world self love. "With mental illness at an all time high, it is easy for us to focus on the darkness in life. My desire is to show others the beauty of fostering the openings that let the light in-- in nurturing their aperture."
