Visual Art – Toronto
I love this dynamic city! I enjoy biking all over Toronto, especially the bustling city streets, through the beautiful green spaces, and along the lakeshore. As I ride with my pup in the back, I observe and stop to sketch Toronto communities in all their diversity. I’m inspired by contemplative individuals and cohesive groups, working, playing, and supporting each other. My intuitive and abstracted figure paintings reflect my deep interest in the human condition and close supportive connections.
I am interested in the “glue” or goodwill that holds groups together. I use connection processes like blend, stick and merge and bring together elements to tell a new story. I draw figures closer, removing barriers and differences, metaphorically increasing equity and inclusion. Ultimately, I paint an imaginary hopeful, more inclusive world.
Born and raised in New Zealand, I graduated Honours in Painting from Auckland University. I have a vibrant exhibition history and have enjoyed teaching roles and residencies in New Zealand and Canada. I have paintings in many international private, public and corporate collections.
