Joey Cook
Music – Richmond
Yes, my full name is joey, & I play the accordion, ukulele, piano, & basic banjo & mandolin, as well as sing & write music.
I grew up in one of the few non military neighborhoods in northern Virginia & started playing piano & singing at age five.
I sang my fair share of broadway ballads into my hairbrush before age 10.
I eventually became a choir kid in school and taught myself to play guitar and ukulele in order to play songs i was making up in my head.
I got a hold of an accordion for the first time in Richmond. Me and my boyfriend had a housewarming party at our new apartment and this girl showed up with an accordion. She stayed the entire night and sat in the corner playing sad waltz\'s and singing commentary for the party. \"Your dress is beautiful la la la\"
I fell in love with the sound and immediately started searching.
Once i bought myself the darling one i have now, i started a backpacking trip taking me to Chicago, New Orleans, & Austin.
I moved to Newport News about 8 months ago and met an amazing band called Mammoth Indigo who i just very recently went on a month long tour with through the mid-west. It was winter, & it was fucking cold, but despite that it was the best month of my life.
