“Clusterfuck Asthetics” (a manic depressive panic attack in the face of information overload). Jerry Saltz. I intend to strip back current affairs by dissecting the hypocrisy of those in power questioning ideas of taboo and shame. I propose that we no longer know where we stand in a modern complex society because our natural urges are suppressed, perverted and altered beyond the realms of natural, into something confused and confusing (unnatural) working around the ideas of Anthropologist Mary Douglas ‘Purity and Danger’ I want to remove shame and dirt the things that marginalize us. I want to explore a world without the constraints of consumerism, Religion, TV in the words of the ‘Matrix’ ‘you are hear to wake up’ By pushing the boundaries of sexual taboos and images of an erotic nature the work is intended as a liberation from social correctness around gender and sexual identities. I want to embrace difference and challenge other peoples concepts, what they may consider acceptable and true. My work aims to be subjective, free from religious constraints and intervention to discover the sheer pleasure of just being, to create a world of fabrics, patchwork appliqué and stitch. Creating an ephemeral world, where images and questions may last longer than the work its self. The hybrid textile armatures no longer cover up or hide to inflict shame on individuals but embrace difference and our true and natural forms of considered deformity and weakness.
