Music – Calgary
Joy Robinson is a Newfoundland-born, Calgary-based singer-songwriter with a passion for creating spaces in which audiences can relax with safety to feel, question, or ponder the messy and spectacular parts of life. Her debut, 11 track LP entitled "A Little at a Time" solidified Joy as a musical storyteller. The album's release concert filled the venue with electricity and quiet attentiveness with audiences praising her vocal agility, stage presence, and ability to hold a room with the roar of a full band or simply sitting solo at a piano. Her stage presence and musicality has been affectionately compared to that of Sara Bareilles, Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood, and Taylor Swift. She is drawn to lyrics that explore the spiritual and emotional nature of our human existence as well as the quirky and ordinary things that make life beautiful. She uses her many musical influences including her Newfoundland folk roots to her inspirations in country, gospel, and musical theatre genres to melodically and lyrically paint a captivating story from beginning to end.
