Julie M Cargill

Visual Art – Chicago

My name is Julie M Cargill. My story still amazes me. I am having the best time in my life painting and getting such wonderful support but until two years ago I didn’t know I could paint or draw. The first time I had a calling to paint was during a bad time in my life. My mother ( who is an artist) encouraged me to write to help me deal with stress. I have been a writer since I could write my name but when I tried to write then I could t find the words. The most natural thing to me; writing. Writing was now impossible for me. So after some time of not being able to write I saw a picture of a young girl at a Mexican wedding. The eyes of this young girl drew me in. The sadness in her eyes spoke to me. I sat down at my kitchen table and started to sketch her, starting with her eyes. I stepped back from the canvas and to my astonishment I had drawn her eye. I was blown away! Mostly because I had no idea I could draw or let alone paint a portrait. My journey began that day. My writing came back soon afterward. I can honestly say that painting saved my life. I also am a photographer. Some of my pictures are not edited but I also enjoy creating abstract photography. I hope you say hello to me and if you so give me a challenge; tell me what you would like to see me paint.
