Visual Art – Los Angeles

My name is Kate.jjj, pronounced Kate-Jay. I am a multi-sensory artist who uses the lens of synesthesia to entertain ideas of modern culture, especially our identities as they relate to brand. Synesthesia is a condition best described as your senses being crossed, so in my case I visualize sound. Music, especially, has a visual, textural, and dimensional quality to it but so do words, numbers, days of the week, etc. My style has directly developed from that experience; so if my painting looks like an intricately crafted Pharrell song then I know it’s complete! If I’m not painting a current cultural obsession, then I’m painting GRIMZ. I battled sleep paralysis my whole life and would wake up, nightly, to this horrific monster on my chest strangling me. Really fun, I know. So, a few years back I decided to create something out of it which developed into a character series I call GRIMZ. More of those to come, for sure. In the meantime, I’ll keep pretending I’m a producer and make beats with my paint.
