Visual Art – Kansas City
I am a realist painter with Stargardts Disease. This condition effects the way my retinas process light, interpreting light values, significantly brighter, and my dark values significantly darker. This naturally makes its way into my artwork as I communicate how I see my changing world. This condition is somewhat disabling as I can no longer drive. After graduating from the University of Kansas with my BFA, I have recently moved to the center of downtown Kansas City, mostly because of the bus system, I am now constantly inspired by mass transportation, and focus my work on a pedestrian’s perspective of urban city scapes. To emphasize a focus on contrasting light, I use vibrant colors, usually pushing a warm/cool contrast, using complimentary colors, such as blues and oranges, or yellows and purples, directly next to each other, creating a visual vibration for the viewers eye. I often times look to Impressionists and Post Impressionists as I admire their delicate rendering of light.
