Visual Art – Orange County

Kina Lee is an artist located in Los Angeles, California who specializes in conceptual art and visual development. Her work is heavily influenced by both Western and Japanese media. She aims to bridge the gap between stylized conceptual art and modern contemporary art. Kintsugi is the 15th century Japanese practice of repairing broken pottery with gold. The meaning “to join with gold” is a reminder that something broken may be rebuilt, and to celebrate the beauty in broken things. The Kintsugi Girls series adapts this process as a representation for overcoming past trauma, showing the fractured pieces of those who suffer through it, and how there is hope that one day we might mend our shattered fragments to turn into something more beautiful than before. You can be torn apart and broken, but you can always find a way to repair yourself and move forward.
