Fashion – Indianapolis
This story of Liz Alig begins a few years ago with travels to India and Kenya where I had the opportunity to witness firsthand how clothing is made in developing countries. What I saw was not as much horrifically shocking as it was a realization that I had never actually considered before who makes my clothing. I soon became more aware – almost obsessive – about reading the \"made in\" tags on clothing in the store. Now I was aware that someone had sewn every stitch, I began to look for fair trade and eco friendly clothing options. As a fashion designer myself, I realized that fair trade and fashionable rarely went together. Two years ago the idea of joining these two concepts gave birth to the line Liz Alig. This line was built on the idea that just maybe making really cool fashionable clothes in developing countries could be a way to lift women out of poverty rather than feed into a cycle of poverty.
