Fashion – Raleigh

Sewing has been a part of my life since I was a child. I come from a legacy of excellent seamstress who put their hearts into every piece they created. My mother, in particular, loved creating pieces that were a perfect complement to her clients. She could dress any woman of any size, in an outfit that looked beautiful. Her technique was flawless because she genuinely cared about how the finished product would benefit the person wearing it. While working alongside my mother, I learned the fundamentals and worked to develop a skill set. However, it wasn’t until the spring of 2016 that I began to take my craft seriously. I realized that over the past few years, the African Maxi Skirt made with traditional fabrics have gained popularity. They are fabulous! The vibrant colors, symbols, and artistry of the material tell an unspoken story of a rich history. It communicates the heart of African-American culture. It highlights the journey of a people who are consistently seeking opportunities to preserve their heritage while establishing a firm identity. Producing fashion that empowers this movement is powerful. I had to be a part of this. Creating pieces with high-quality, authentic material at a reasonable price is our standard. Since we’ve launched, clients all across the state have received custom made pieces that are perfect for them. The response has been incredible, and it’s time to go to the next level. When I see my clients wearing pieces from our collection, I’m so inspired! It’s like sowing into someone’s life and immediately seeing the fruit of your labor. My pieces will travel to many places and have many stories to tell. It’s a joy to have been part of that experience. Sewing is an art form. When I put my hands to work on the LQ Ballen Collection, I’m using the God given gifts I’ve been given to both support my family and add value to our clients. It’s an honor to continue the legacy of excellence my mother passed on to me. Every time I create a piece, I feel connected to her.
