SLK [Soyoung L. Kim]

I was born in Seoul but spent most of my childhood in Nairobi. I received my MFA in Writing from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I currently live in Madison, WI. Besides raising 3 children with my husband, I spend my time writing and making art. I like to tell stories, whether it is through my writing or through my art. I primarily use watercolor because it seems to best capture the ephemeral. The \"100 Cups of Tea\" installation came about through a desire to recycle my stacks of manuscripts. The tea cups and saucers are made from paper and a simple paste made from flour and water. I wanted to make something beautiful out of something that would be thrown out - hopefully this inspires others to take what could be seen as trash and transform it into something else.
