Matt Gatto
Visual Art – Pittsburgh
Matt Gatto is a sculptor and furniture maker living and working in Pittsburgh, PA. Born in 1983 he 
has been involved in art in many forms since he was very young. He attended Slippery Rock
 University and graduated with a B.A. in technical theatre and design with a minor in studio arts in 
2005. His work has been exhibited in galleries throughout Pittsburgh. In 2012 he was elected to 
the goverening board of the Society of Sculptors  Pittsburgh Chapter. He has a great deal of 
interest in many different areas of art including sculpture, painting, two and three dimensional 
design, product design, lighting, and furniture. Due in part to his educational background he is 
fascinated with the ability of light to evoke emotion, alter space, and perception. Found objects 
play an important role in his work as both a source of inspiration and a way to solve problems. He
interested in the philosophical implications of transforming discarded objects into something of 
both use and value. He is passionate about meshing together the world of high art and
functional art to redefine the role of art in our everyday lives.
