Visual Art – Austin

"I want to paint what moves you. A piece of art is something you will see every day, consciously or not. Better is the piece that stops you for a moment and calls forth the deep calming breath that you deserve. A few seconds with it, and everything in the world disappears into a place where all is OK. " From the age of 5, Matthew Yerby had 2 loves: Baseball and Painting. The All-State athlete studied psychology while playing Division 1 Baseball at Northwestern State University, never once stepping foot inside the art department. "Painting was my time. None of my teammates had a clue the party animal was a closet artist." After baseball ended in 2011 with nothing but a bachelor's degree, Matthew found he didn't have what the real world was asking for: Experience. "It's my favorite word because of what it taught me. It made me ask myself what I was experienced at. I started painting again and I haven't stopped since. Just like baseball, the more you practice, the better you get." When he's not wearing overalls and covered in paint, Matthew is a SAG actor, screenwriter, director, songwriter, and plays the harmonica. He currently teaches painting classes at Painting With A Twist - Uptown New Orleans.
