Exploring the polarizing themes of photorealistic portraiture and abstract paint \"pouring.\"
I draw my inspiration from people in my everyday routine, capturing their individuality in my portraits. Colored pencil is typically my medium of choice. The elimination of black in my color palette has expanded my understanding of color, compliments and depth.
Recently inspired by a friend’s social media trend #skybluepink and the artist Holton Rower, I have temporarily abandoned the portraiture motif. As I experiment with different viscosities and mixtures of paint, both the pour process and end result have naturally created a next step. I am now factoring in medium, timing and disruption of paint flow, background, placement of paint on surface before movement, etc. Once I have understood the technique to my satisfaction, I plan on reintroducing photorealistic portraits and continuing in the development of my personal style.
