Visual Art – Columbus
I grew up in Columbus OH in the 80s on a steady stream of Jim Henson and Disney, both of which had no problem showing dark scary places and terrifying monsters and villains to young children. Now that I am an adult, I look back and find more inspiration from the scary things, the dark things, things lived in and decayed. Introducing anime into my media consumption inspired me to be an artist, but it’s the older films that inspire my voice and aesthetic as an artist. Dark saturated purples and blacks with a flare of pink or poison green. I wish to explore this darkness, never forgetting the inherent silliness of it. My subjects are spooky, dangerous and sometimes monstrous, but they can also be beautiful and sensual.
