Nozama Dance Collective is a community of strong women who cannot live without dance. Dance is a our realm for expression. It\'s a place where you can move your body however you want; motivated by whatever music inspires you or whichever emotions compel you. It\'s a place to celebrate, promote, and revel in \"girl power.\" It\'s a place to express how past experiences have shaped us into empowered women. Because even in the darkest moments of our lives there is a strength that we can pull from, and this strength propels us, inspires us, and motivates us to push further.
When naming our company, we were looking for a synonym for \'an empowered woman\'. Unfortunately, many of the words we found had a negative connotation, particularly the word \'Amazonian\'. This struck us as both frustrating and enlightening, and thus we were presented with an opportunity to change that perspective. We wanted to \"flip\" these terms on their head--with that, \'Nozama\' was born.
Gracie Novikoff and Natalie Schiera, Nozama\'s directors and choreographers, are very excited to be sharing their visions and passions with their audiences.
