Visual Art – Salt Lake City
I grew up loving to make art, but mostly small scale, detailed sculpture. Back when I was in high school, girls weren't allowed to take metal shop or any of those cool classes where you could learn how to make useful things, make a really big mess, or make a living. It wasn't until 20 years later that I took an evening class in metal welding and found my medium. It's messy. It's loud, and hot, and dangerous. Cutting and welding rusty metal is an imprecise process. I never know how a piece will turn out, but I usually succeed in not burning down the garage.
