Kara Burton

Visual Art – Dallas - Fort Worth

Kara Burton is a North Texas based painter that paints within multiple styles. One of her most common practices is portraits that can range from basic realism to slightly abstracted. Kara's most recent form of painting is executed into large unrecognizable pieces that are messy and abstracted. These large abstracted paintings are non-objective works that come from multiple inspirations. Kara takes her inspiration for these paintings from patterns she discovers in nature, dreams or daily observations. Kara hand crafts all of her large canvases herself, she takes pride in her craftsmanship and builds some of her stretchers over 8 feet tall and over 6.5 feet wide. Kara uses a large variety of materials, from scarp discarded house paint to small batches of craft glitter. Working large scale requires a lot of material, and Kara sometimes searches multiple establishments for materials that might be discarded in attempt to recycle and give her a random starting point she must learn to work from! Kara is also adventurous when it comes to the way she applys her paint, she has explored using multiple found objects to apply paint to her canvases as a goal for reaching multiple textures within her paintings. Kara finds great joy in simple commissions requested by people that enjoy her paintings. She loves to help people develop and execute the ideas they have in mind for their finished product. Although a lot of her work is made for commissions, she thrives to paint many ways and hopes that her style will forever be changing and expanding.
