Patrice Lee
Music – Long Beach
Singer/songwriter Patrice Lee is a Southern California native and raised in Bellflower. The Renaissance woman is as diverse as her professional and personal background; Lee’s ancestry includes Jewish, Puerto Rican, Indian and Ethiopian descent.
The brown hair, brown-eyed vocalist’s life story is a cross between Lee’s favorite movie, “The Wiz” and Whitney’s Houston’s swan song, “Sparkle.” Reminiscent of the classic rags-to-riches tale, Lee’s indomitable spirit is tried and tested. Her desire is captured simply saying, “I got into this business to teach people how to love again.”
Lee started singing at age four when music became her best friend and soul mate. She composed her first song at age eight. “The best part about being a singer/songwriter has always been that I can reinvent myself and situations. I’m able to express myself even more with my music,” says Lee.
For 15 years, Lee enjoys touring and singing in theater and club venues around the US including New York, Southern California, and The Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas. Art imitates life, again, for Lee who is a Lead Vocalist at the Lynwood Performing Arts Center featured in the Gospel Musical, “Big Girls Don’t Cry.”
As an actress/singer, Lee’s audiences can feel and hear the pain and redemption in her performances. Looking into her almond eyes and listening to her lyrical content and melodic voice, the audience feels Lee’s emotions and truth.
Lee is particularly excited about her work over the past year on her CD, \"Un-Spoken.\" She attributes her sound to artists Sade, Beyoncé, and Mariah Carey, all of whom she has been compared to. When it comes down to the writing process, though, Lee is known to \"freestyle\" her lyrics during recording sessions and then puts them on paper.
She has been featured on several underground rappers albums, singing catchy hooks as well as songwriting for the group \"The Mr. & Mrz. Projekt.\" Lee describes her music as, “emotional and daring. I sing from within. Each song is a life experience. I typically listen to music that I can feel inside my heart and soul, then, the writing process begins.\"
Lee is part of a musical family with 3 brothers and 2 sisters; her eldest brother is a music producer and her younger brother also writes and produces music. In fact, one of her fondest memories was a gig in Hollywood where 3-time Grammy nominee and co-founder of R&B, El Debarge, was in the audience and he gave Lee a standing ovation.
The popular performer and mom, Lee likens herself to a combination of her idols, Grammy Award winner and Academy Award winners Whitney Houston, Sandra Bullock and Charlize Theron. Lee enjoys using her experiences as the soundtrack to her life.
“My daughter Reign inspires me. She is my first born child who was born out of God’s Will and she motivates me to pursue my career. She thinks I am the most beautiful and talented person in the world, and there’s no better motivation,” Lee smiles.
The African-American athletic beauty enjoys basketball, cooking, nature walks, and writing in her leisure time. Lee is born on January 31.
