Visual Art – Denver

I was born in April of 1990 in Denver, Colorado. I recently completed my BFA at the University of Colorado Denver. I draw, paint, sew, craft, build, and design fabrics. Drawing is my passion, I love to work with markers. I am a strong believer in balancing content with formal concerns such as color, composition, and scale. Both should compliment, not compete. I want to draw the viewer in through aesthetics and keep the viewer interested through content and meaning. In my drawings, I like to look at feminism through a pop culture lens, underlining how film and television can help further the feminist message. Ideally, I want viewers to come away from the work more aware of the obstacles women face yet feeling inspired. Recently, I have been incorporating my drawings into other media. I create patterns using my own drawings and have them printed onto fabrics that I use to line the boxes that I build. In addition to building the four foot tall boxes and covering them with faux fur, I also sew and stuff giant tentacles to fill them with. It has been interesting stepping outside of my comfort zone. I enjoy all forms of art and I look forward to continuing to \"step outside the box,\" pun intended.
