Rejeana V. Black is a fine art photographer based in Long Beach, CA. She is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Fine Art Photography at California State University, Long Beach. For over the past nine years, Rejeana has worked towards building herself as an artist and as a freelance photographer. Her practice is primarily based on portraiture photography but also dabbles in video and collage art. She is currently focused on producing a series titled, PSYCH (2017-2019), which is a body of work centered around mental health and ancestral trauma. Influenced by research and insights from psychologist, Dr. Eduardo Duran and late Swiss psychoanalyst, Carl Gustav Jung, she hopes her work will ignite an open dialogue pertaining to the taboos of mental health and how ancestral trauma is stored in our DNA which might be triggered in our daily lives. After experiencing a drug-induced psychosis in February 2017, Rejeana has turned toward sharing this experiencing through her practice to de-escalate the stigma of psychosis and ignite a discussion on mental health with her audience.
She has done paid work such as event and portrait photography which has aided in her growth and plans to carry her freelance photography business with her in her fine art career. Rejeana has been featured in the Port of Long Beach Photography Program in the summer of 2017 and was a part in the Port of Long Beach’s group show held at the Long Beach Museum of Art in October 2017.
