Richard Gartrell

Richard Gartrell is a 26-year old artist working in painting, film and photography. He is a self-taught painter. Originally from the DC-metro area, Gartrell moved to New York City after high school to study filmmaking at The School of Visual Arts. While earning his BFA, he interned for Michel Gondry, which led to steady work in commercial and music video production. In 2010 these jobs brought him to Los Angeles, where Gartrell discovered the space and means to expand his painting hobby into large, abstract canvases. Chaotic and dreamlike, these pictures target the imagination. They continually morph the deeper you look, and offer a new approach to experiencing painting. Gartrell also contributes video art for theatre and performance installations in New York.
