Visual Art – Washington, D.C.

Sarah E. Roy is a D.C-based visual artist specializing in illustration and stage design. She graduated from Washington College after designing two theatrical productions and completing dual degrees in English and Art. Her interest in literature, philosophy, and art history heavily inform the context of her work. An avid creative writer, Roy’s style blooms from inverse preoccupations with nihilism, transcendentalism, and magic realism. Paint, ink, pencil, sounds, beverages, bones and an assorted stew of found objects have debuted in her experimental installations: no medium is uninvited. Roy’s pieces often conceptualize questioning political authority, challenging a sentient environment, and persisting with curiosity in the face of cosmic horror to defeat complacency. She has three cats.
