Photography – Newcastle
Im a young Sydney/Newcastle based doctor with a keen passion for the arts. My medical interests centre on women\'s and public health with a particular focus on improving health access in developing regions.
Since 2010 I has volunteered as a medic with various NGOs in India, Burma and Papua New Guinea where I have had access to people at their most vulnerable. My experiences have helped me to gain unique insight into their hardships but also insight into the fundamental elements of healing that are less emphasised by Western practice.
Whilst on placement I began to document my experiences visually. My images attempt to vividly communicate the key elements of each experience both as an observer as well as a medic and in doing so I hope to instil a distinct awareness in the viewer. \'Left of Centre Stage\' is an ongoing series narrating some of the key points in my journey so far. I hope that my work will eventually engage and motivate viewers to participate in improving the face of international public healthcare.
Artistically I have successfully exhibited in \'Art Express\' at the NSW Art Gallery (2004); in the contemporary group exhibition ‘Touching Our Land’ (Sydney,2014); I was a semi finalist in the 2014 City of Sydney photography competition and Most recently, part of my first solo exhibition ‘Without Rose Coloured Glasses’ (Sydney 2014) has been included in the permanent collection at the National Art Gallery of Papua New Guinea.
