Visual Art – New York - NYC

SCLSCM (pron. s-EEL s-IM) is a 26-year-old, queer woman of color and creator across multiple mediums and genres. She graduated from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts in 2015 with a B.A. in Film and Television, and currently works as a freelance prop assistant in the industry to support her art. “She Can Love. She Can Masturbate," S.C.L.S.C.M. was born from societal taboos that shame women for indulging in self-love and self-pleasure. She considers her work as a reclamation of her body and voice through poetry, music, and layers of acrylic. In her work, she explores the stages of womanhood, the layers of love, and the power of sexuality. She imagines how our sex morphs to extend beyond traditional, dominant narratives of what it "should be" or how it "should look;" what is decidedly inappropriate and what is acceptable - for a "woman.” She combats feeling controlled and sexualized by patriarchal standards with depictions of powerful nude brown women, who are idols not beholden to this world.
