Shawnie June and Kailia Elle (James & Mars) are best friends who share a love of the weird and unusual. Together, they have chosen art as a tool for healing past traumas after seeing each other through many highs and lows.
Visions and dreams come to life through the work of Shawnie June. Each piece is a raw and honest reflection of how she sees herself in world where she doesn’t fit in. Through depression and dark times, these pieces have enlightened a path of healing and hope. With a name adopted from her late Grandmother, June Nurse, Shawnie hopes to spark the imagination of those who come across her art.
Kailia is a self taught crafter and the creator of James & Mars. She uses various mediums to construct bold and unusual one-of-a-kind pieces. Her handmade cement skulls are canvases that represent the juxtaposition of life and death. James & Mars is inspired by Kailia’s father Sherman Marsden McCarthy and her niece Ryen James. Her art unites them.
