Shelbie Dimond

Photography – San Francisco

During the inhospitable winters of western Michigan, Shelbie Dimond spent as much time behind the camera as possible. She began taking self-portraits with a simple digital SLR, and then her father gave her an old Canon A-1. The honesty of film photography soon captured her heart and grew to an obsession. During her courses at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, MI, Shelbie learned to love the art of black and white film processing and printing. The technical aspects of photography were a little annoying to her at first, because she wasn’t looking for flawlessness. Shelbie’s professor, who generally loved her work, had a problem with the fact that she didn’t want her blacks to be so black and her whites so white. She wanted grays. Her photography was developing into a creative search for the in-betweens and the magic of extracting beauty from otherwise unsightly images. While attending school at KCC, Shelbie was invited to participate in her first group exhibition. Since then she has been interviewed and published in many online and print magazines, books and blogs internationally. She also has an obsession with fashion photography and hopes to pursue a career in the field. She also aspires to develop her magical ability to reveal the ghostly sirens lurking in ordinary women, and Greek gods in mortal men.
