Fashion – Melbourne

SHIO is the brainchild of design duo Hannah Fry and Fozia Akalo, recent honours graduates of the prestigious RMIT Bachelor of Fashion Design Program. Born from the union of their graduate collections, SHIO demonstrates the diversion of their cultural backgrounds to create a visual spectacle. The literal translation of SHIO is \'salt\' in Japanese, formed from a \'nineties inspired acronym. The word itself represents purity, simplicity, crystallinity, and the the alchemist symbol forms the basis of the SHIO insignia. SHIO is a fusion of contemporary urban street-wear and Japanese aesthetics. Combining functionality with authentic pattern construction, their approach creates a stylised statement of disproportion, simply by considering the placement of particular pieces on the body together. Visually, a tongue in cheek approach to style utilises elements of print, colour, personalised details and textural highlights. SHIO is not for the faint hearted, but for todays \'fashion killa\'.
