Visual Art – Miami

My name is Simone Danielle. I was born and raised in the countryside of the west Carolinas, and now living in, the ever so warm, Miami, working as a labor organizer while creating art. My work consists of paintings (acrylic and watercolor), clay sculptures, instillations, functional pieces, and photography. I create art as a form of release, communication, and exploration and I believe in intentionality. Frida Khalo once said, “My painting carries with it the message of pain.” A lot of my work describes oppression, root tree analysis’, struggles with mental health, suffering & pain, and anger. Another theme of my work celebrates black and brown women. When I was conjuring a name for a physical and mental space where my art, for the first time, would be publicly displayed, the name needed to mean something. It needed to be personal. Elle comes from my middle name, given to me by mother, reminiscent of my grandfather who passed away when I was very young. Lair, defined as, a wild animal's resting place, especially one that is well hidden, describes the mind space in which this work was created in.
