Visual Art – Adelaide

Siobhan (AKA bon bon) Harley is an Interior Architecture graduate, with a strong penchant for illustration. Her talents are rooted in a natural passion for art, have been nurtured in secondary training and are growing still; through observation, practice and exploration. She is influenced (mainly) by the art of Patrick Woodroffe, Tim Burton and Jim Henson. Finding inspiration everywhere, she draws from; nature, moments in time, nostalgic childhood fantasies, memories of places, Avant Garde couture, sub-cultures - with other influences in music, literature and film. Art presents itself to Siobhan even in the most seemingly banal thing. She particularly finds delight, in all that is slightly offbeat and whimsical. Merging natural, social and cultural occurrences with her own personal perspective; she reveals a glimpse through her eyes in every artwork. Often assuming a mixed-media approach, (by layering coloured pencil, blending with copic markers and adding sharp graphite details – other times using just black felt-tipped pen or graphite sketches creating dynamic, movement and detail) she aspires to share with the world some child-like, ‘kooky whimsy’. Siobhan seeks to capture emotions and convey an idealistic-yet-quirky version of reality, aiming to connect with a part of the viewer that (perhaps unknowingly) yearns for such things.
