Music – San Francisco

Connie Muhammad says she is living the best times of her life, artistically, and is confident that will resonate with listeners when her new CD \"Sound Doctrine\" releases this February. Her new work is what she calls a \" walk thru my spirit\" and gives a more personal view into her as a artist. The Arizona native is no stranger to trendsetting in the Valley- also known as Nutmeg, she is said to be one of the most underrated hip-hop artists on the underground circuit in the late nineties due to her local classic \"Ghettos Child\". This experience she embraces and says makes her who she is today. Connie has also been busy more recently with acting and theater, and is featured in play write Rod Ambrose adaptation of the award winning play \"Rhyme Deferred\" as Eve, a female rapper beholden to the underground scene who comes to terms with her true purpose. Connie says she definitely relates to the story. \"I don\'t shy from my past, it is unique and is what makes me who I am today. When I get fans asking about \"Ghettos Child\" I can\'t help but to smile\". On \"Sound Doctrine\" she incorporates her love for Hip-hop with lyrical wordplay embellished with her laid back-choppy delivery. Songs like \"Never fall Again\" and \"Hereafter is Now\" shine and make you want to delve into conversation with this wise women of song. Her strength in dominance of the tracks is actually endearing and keeps you guessing what is next. The conscious club track \"Lets\' Move\" and \"Lucid\" are well prodced pieces that, like a good book, helps you visualize what she sees and makes you want to join her in the journey. Sound Doctrine is a showcase of what may be of her strongest asset-her flair for songwriting. Her musical influences is what she pays homage to in this eclectic mix of neo-soul,hip-hop, R & B, funk and jazz. These she says are the kinds of music she can kick back and relax to and wants the CD \"Sound Doctrine\" to provoke listeners to do the same. Vocally, a mezzo-soprano, she challenges herself like never before reminiscent of R & B divas of days past. Beautifully executed vocals makes songs from The Emotions or Patrice Rushen come to mind! The blend of cashmere smooth tracks and optimistic lyrical content wraps you up and keeps you warm throughout the entire CD.
