Sean Leahy, Ice Sculptor

Visual Art – Austin

Raised in St. Louis, MO, I have been interested in art my whole life. I began drawing and creating from a young age and have never lost my passion for it. I received my B.A. in Studio Arts at Webster University in 2005. After returning home from a semester in Vienna, Austria, I began sculpting ice for a company in St. Louis. It was there that I discovered the allure of the impermanent nature of the medium. I find satisfaction in the process of creation and appreciate the life and changes that occur as the pieces melt. I have been sculpting ice for the past six years and have competed in several national competitions. Most notably, I won first place in a NICA (National Ice Carving Association) sanctioned event in Mount Holly, New Jersey in 2009 with an abstract piece, "Incrementum". I moved to Texas with my wife, Caitlin, to start my own ice sculpting company in August 2010. I am proud to say that Full Spectrum Ice Sculptures has been open since November 2010. I am truly excited to join the amazing art community that Austin, TX has and can't wait to contribute my perspective.
