CUTTER OF CLOTH: The Biography of Taylor James Johnson My name is Taylor. My parents gave me that name when I was just a little bitty fetus. They decided on the name Taylor because it happens to be unisex. So, no matter what gender I came out as I would still be able to be a Taylor. It was a smart and safe choice. If I ever decide to change genders I won’t have to go through all the trouble of ...changing my name too. Thanks, Mom and Dad. The name Taylor is of Middle English and Old French origin and means a person who sews or a cutter of cloth. The first Taylors/Tailors who ever roamed the earth were mostly born into the occupation they were named after; tailors. I haven’t cut much cloth in my life and sewing is not exactly a big hobby of mine but that doesn’t mean that I am not a Taylor. I am a Taylor, but not a tailor. The name Taylor is everywhere. It was written on the ice cream machine in the cafeteria at school. There are cities named Taylor in Texas, New York, Canada and many more. Charlton Heston’s character in “Planet of the Apes” was named Taylor! It was a very profound thing for me as a child to share the name of an astronaut action hero who fought monkey people. Don’t forget Elizabeth Taylor or President Taylor! The Taylors once ruled Hollywood and America. So, I feel an obligation to live up to the great Taylors that came before me. ex: Taylor Hanson, Taylor Hicks and Taylor Swift I set out on an epic quest to achieve all of my little Taylor dreams. The first step was to leave the world of an “average high school” and attend The North East School of the Arts (NESA) in the Cinema program. This opportunity allowed me to really understand what it means to be an artist/filmmaker. Against my better judgment, I soon consumed my little Taylor world with numerous film/art projects. I soon forgot how to do anything but make movies. My life as a Taylor was shaken violently when I started going to college at The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). There I met Taylor Johnson. She was an African-American female, who not only had my first name but she had my last name too. Who was this Taylor Johnson? Other than the name, we didn’t have anything in common. Then I met another Taylor. His dorm room was right next to mine. He was a film major, just like me. He was from the great state of Texas, just like me. He had the same haircut and facial hair as me and we shared many hobbies. Who was this Taylor? He took everything away from me. He took my looks, my interest, and my identity. But that is not all. I just heard that there is a new Taylor in town, who also studied film at SCAD. This Taylor has the same last name as me and he is from the city of San Antonio. He has my city. He has my education. He has my first and last name. Who is this Taylor Johnson? How can I truly know who I am when there are Taylors walking around everywhere just like me? I don’t even know who I am anymore. Am I a cutter of cloth? Am I an ape-fighting astronaut? Or am I just another filmmaker from Texas named Taylor? Who is this Taylor Johnson? I really don’t know anymore. All I know is that my name is Taylor. Nowadays, I make a living by producing THE JACK RICCARDI SHOW on 550KTSA radio. It is one of the most popular news/talk radio shows broadcasting out of San Antonio. I schedule guests, screen phone calls, educate interns and assist the charismatic Jack Riccardi, as we put out an informative 4-hour talk show every weekday. Since we live in changing times, I even get to film some segments of the radio show. Yes, that’s right! Radio you can see! I also have my own daily entertainment \"news\" segment called TAYLOR TRASH. Yes, It is called TAYLOR TRASH. Sounds like “trailer trash”…get it? We discuss and poke fun at whatever is going on in pop culture. This Taylor uses his film school \"education\" to critique new movies and to offer his opinion on the most important breaking news stories in the wonderful land of pop culture. We often play music and audio clips of celebrities saying \"interesting\" things - as well as promote local art events/concerts/festivals. TAYLOR TRASH is a fun little break from “real” news stories and allows our listeners to get caught up in all the craziness of Hollywood, that nobody cares about. Some shows take out the TRASH...we bring it in. I continue to make short films, animations, music videos and documentaries. My films have screened all over the world and have won many awards at numerous film festivals. Now Taylor (that’s me…) is on a mission to combine the worlds of radio, television, print, music and film…start a revolution...then eventually take over the world. But he should move out of his parent’s house first. My name is Taylor.The Story of DYLAN CODY ALTMAN Sometimes he wishes he could sum up his life in just one sentence. It would go something like “I was born, I lived, and I died” but of course it’s not that easy. Dylan Cody Altman came into this earth exactly 215 years after Patrick Henry delivered his famous “give me liberty or give me death” speech during the American Revolutionary War. He knew from that day that he had big shoes to fill if he were to change the world. At a young age he realized that his mind saw things differently than other people. He discovered that his imagination was a very powerful force. This was either the beginning of something magical or a downward spiral into the complete destruction of the universe. Luckily he used his power for good and the history of mankind was forever safe. He used his power to create different universes and stories he saw in his mind. Instead of turning in paper assignments and book reports he would turn in short films, which soon became more than just a hobby. This love for film lead him to enroll at the North East School of the Arts where he met future film partner and best friend Taylor James Johnson (rumor has it the friendship sparked over a conversation about their love towards the movie Napoleon Dynamite. But this is only a rumor). As he grew older his love for film became something much more. It became way to express his ideas and tell his stories to the world. After high school he attended Santa Fe College where he accepted a full ride for his talents in film and soccer. After spending a year growing as a filmmaker he realized that soccer and the small city of Santa Fe where holding him back from his destiny. After deciding against Miami because of the bad weather, Dylan took his talents to the Windy City where he was accepted into the prestigious film program at Columbia College. He has since then left Columbia College and currently lives a busy life traveling back and forth from Chicago to San Antonio and other parts of the world making films of every genre for Taylor Trash Productions . Stanley Kubrick said it best when he said “If it can be written, or thought, it can be filmed.”
