Tony Lemos
Visual Art – Phoenix
Tony Lemos was born in 1980 in Mesa, Arizona. In 2006 he received a BFA from Laguna College of Art and Design, with a emphasis in drawing and painting. Tony first knew that he was an artist when he learned that he could draw from his observations. He started out using graphite as a medium, opened to the use of charcoal while in college and began oil painting in the year 2000. “A sense of air, a sense of presence,” is what Tony strives to replicate, and he has recently begun to study the concept of impermanence in his work through allowing nature to interact with him in the creative process. He says, “Everything is fleeting and we are constantly gambling with time, chasing down the moments. You never know when the opportunity will be taken away or when you can no longer pay tribute to life around you.” He considers water its own medium, he has purposely taken fresh paintings to stand in and be unveiled by natural water sources such as a rainstorm and waterfall.
In addition to his current work, Tony also has experience doing decorative finishes and murals for both residential and commercial construction projects. He has worked in galleries as both a consultant and merchandizer, and has participated in several art shows, including: Mentorship- The Whitney Gallery, Laguna Beach, CA 2006; Skulls- The Phoenicia Association, Phoenix, AZ 2009; Solo Exhibition, Chasing Elusive- The Funk Lab,Phoenix, AZ 2011; Solo Exhibition- Circa 79 Gallery, Tucson, AZ 2012
